Camping for friends and spectators 2024

As always, we’ll have free camping for competitors at the 2024 event. In recent years we’ve had more spectators than ever and last year made changes to ensure that the camping is manageable going forwards. It’s important to stress from the outset that most other events do not provide free camping, you would generally have to find your own accommodation and pay. For that reason, you need to be realistic with regard to what we can provide and appreciate that it’s provided free of charge to you.

We have a traditional rule of 1 car and tent per competitor which applies to you. Your partner / children can join you if they fit in that tent, which should be no bigger than a large car. If you intend on bringing a huge tent, with multiple bedrooms and a cinema room, you’ll need to book camping elsewhere.

Caravans and camper vans will still be allowed on the bottom field, but we supply drinking water only. We’re limited with regards to how many water bowsers we can have on the field, so it’s not acceptable to empty the bowser by filling your motor home shower tank. Bring your own water. The same rules apply as above, it’s for runners, their partners and children only, not extended family. There’s no electricity hook up.

If friends, parents or extended family intend to come and support, they’ll need to find alternative accommodation. Coniston Hall Campsite and Coniston Sports & Social Centre provide camping in the village and have great toilet and shower facilities, as well as a function room and bar. They are only a few hundred metres from the event HQ.

How does the camping work?

3 weeks prior to the event, you will receive a barcode by email. The barcode will also be found in your results base account (3 weeks prior to event). When you arrive, you must show your barcode and this will be scanned and associated with a single car registration number. You will not be able to bring a 2nd vehicle onto the site. The car park will be staffed throughout the full weekend and only vehicles checked in will be allowed access throughout the weekend.

IMPORTANT

  1. You do not need to book or email in advance to secure a camping spot. Just turn up.
  2. If you arrive Friday, you must do so no earlier than 9am and no later than 11pm, when the site closes. It will not re-open until 6am Saturday. Please note, there is no camping at HQ on Thursday evening and you must have left by 2pm Sunday.
  3. The site will also be closed from Friday 5:30pm through to 7:00pm so avoid arriving at these times. The Lakeland 100 starts at 6pm and there will be road closures in place, the children’s fun run (which takes place on the camping field) starts 6:30pm so no cars can be driving on the camping field. As a guide, aim to arrive by 5pm Friday or leave it until 7pm Friday.
  4. Once you have parked and pitched on the camping field on Friday, you will not be able to leave the field until 6am Saturday. You cannot drive onto the site, pitch your tent, then leave in your car. The site is too busy, we have children playing etc and we only have a single access point. If you’re planning to come early, pitch your tent then drive to another location… you can’t.
  5. On Saturday evening, the camping field will then be closed from 11pm through to 6am, so you will not be able to drive in and out of the campsite within that time window. If you’re picking up runners, use the separate car park (see point 7).
  6. The campsite regulations and in place to reduce disturbance and impact on local residents. As above, the car park will be staffed throughout the weekend with security staff to control access.
  7. If you are not camping, there is a separate car park which will be operated based on the same barcode system / car parking pass. You can access and leave the car park at any time, presuming you have a barcode (when you first arrive) and a car parking pass throughout the remainder of the weekend.
