The third race in the 2019 Montane Trail Tour is the Howgills Trail 13 & 26, half and full marathon course. The event is based in Sedbergh and the course passes through the Howgill Fells, part of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. It’s a picturesque setting, but the course has real ‘bite’ with some serious climbing in the first 6 miles for both half and full marathon courses. The paths are grassy and not technical or rocky underfoot, but you’ll be working hard to summit ‘Winder’, ‘Arant Haw’, ‘Calder’ and eventually ‘The Calf’. The half marathon route heads East and descents Cautley Spout waterfall, whilst the marathon continues to the half way stop at Ravenstonedale. Both courses return along the Eastern edge of the Howgills, before a real ‘sting in the tail’ in the final miles. It’s stunning, quiet and scenic, but not for the faint hearted. Come and join us for a wonderful day out in the Howgills, bring the family, there’s a free Trail Kidz 1k, so start them young!
