On Friday evening in the main marquee at 8pm, our guest speakers will be on stage, hosted by John Cassidy from the Young Hearts Run Free podcast team.
This year, we have amazing trio, who use the power of ultra running to do incredible things in the local community.
Rich Price is the founder and driving force behind Atebion and their recovery programme, which is based on eight transformative principles of change. They’re a not-for-profit organisation supporting people from all walks of life who have experienced addiction, trauma and mental-health complexities. Trail running has been a vital part of the rehab for many of the people they support and at this year’s event, a number of those who have received Rich’s support, will be taking part in the 50 mile event this year.
Basil Heaney is one of the founders of IntoUltra, a charity that helps more people run (and walk) ultras. Alongside 1:1 chats with a friendly ear, advice, inspiration and social calls, they also provide free race places, coaching, kit and courses for those that face financial barriers. The majority of this support is provided for free by event partners such as Lakeland 100. They have helped over 200 people in total, over 50% are female and more than 10% are non-white, as one of their goals is to help improve diversity.
George Bate left a corporate career ten years ago to join The Running Charity. Initially volunteering to establish a programme in Manchester, he now works full-time for the charity, using the power of running to help young people affected by homelessness transform their lives. A keen runner since his teens, George has competed at distances from 3 miles to over 200, mostly in the mountains, and remains passionate about the role endurance can play in personal growth and connection. George will be running the 50 this year, alongside a runner who he has supported through the charity.
