Camping for friends and spectators 2023 – Update 27/4/23

As always, we’ll have free camping for competitors at the 2023 event. In 2022 we had more spectators than ever and we need to make some changes to ensure that the camping is manageable going forwards. The traditional rule of 1 car and tent per competitor will apply, your partner / children can join you if they fit in that tent, which should be no bigger than a large car. If you intend on bringing a huge tent, bigger than a large car, you’ll need to book camping elsewhere.

Caravans and camper vans will still be allowed on the bottom field, but we supply drinking water only, so it’s not acceptable to empty the bowser to fill your shower tank. Bring your own water. The same rules apply as above, it’s for runners, their partners and children only, not extended family. There’s no electricity hook up.

If friends, parents or extended family intend to come and support, they’ll need to find alternative accommodation. Coniston Sports & Social Centre provide camping in the village and have great toilet and shower facilities, as well as a function room and bar. They are now taking bookings for the full weekend.

How does the camping work?

This year all competitors will receive a barcode in advance of the event. When you arrive, you must show your barcode and this will be scanned and associated with a single car registration number. You will not be able to bring a 2nd vehicle onto the site. The car park will be staffed throughout the full weekend and only vehicles checked in will be allowed access throughout the weekend.

IMPORTANT

  1. If you arrive Friday, you must do so before 11pm, when the site closes. It will not re-open until 6am Saturday.
  2. Once you have parked and pitched on the camping field, you will not be able to leave the field until 6am Saturday. You cannot drive onto the site, pitch your tent, then leave in your car.
  3. On Saturday evening, the camping field will then be closed from 11pm through to 6am, so you will not be able to drive in and out of the campsite within that time window.
  4. The campsite regulations and in place to reduce disturbance and impact on local residents. As above, the car park will be staffed throughout the weekend to control access.

There are showers at the school, but they are limited and we don’t have the ability to increase capacity due to water supply and other factors. Please remember the camping is free, if you would prefer better showers then we recommend you use alternative camping.
