It’s 15 weeks to the Lakeland party weekend so for those who haven’t been before, we thought we’d let you know what’s in store at Coniston HQ.
As per last year, the large marquee will be situated on the school playing field and will be used for registration and as the finish tent. In marquee number 2, Matt and ‘The Farmers Wife’ team will be back again to do all our event catering and post-event finshers meals. Matt’s team will also be staffing the Lakeland bar where you can enjoy a pint of ‘Uncle Terry’ or a swift half of ‘Legend’, pre or post event. Rinaldo of the famous Rin’s Coffee will be back with his coffee shop and this year, ensuring you have your caffeine fix at any time of day. We’ll also have live music on Friday night so you can relax before the 50 and we promise this year, the music will end at 10, so the early sleepers can get their much needed rest.
If you’re running the 50, make sure you join us for Friday evening and soak up the atmosphere at the 100 start as it’s an amazing spectacle. We have a live opera singer to set the tone and the streets of Coniston are brought to a standstill by the crowds, waving the 100 runners off on their amazing journey. Bring your family and children to take part in the FREE Lakeland 1 event (1 mile) which immediately follows the 100 start. Last year we had nearly 300 children, parents and grand parents, with the youngest still in pushchairs and being carried on shoulders. All of the children get a free memento.
We’ll be using the school hall for all event briefings and it will also be used for the presentation post-event. For those who haven’t been before, the school hall is 100m from the marquee, so not far to hobble! Don’t miss the briefing and definitely don’t miss the presentation as the post-event stories are worth their weight in gold.

Camping at Coniston School is available free of charge for competitors and their family. Be sensible and fair to everyone, don’t bring 45 relatives with 10 tents, it’s for you and your immediate family. The camping will be pretty simple this year, it will be first come, first served. This means that those arriving early will be on the main field closer to the marquee. Those who arrive later will be on the overflow field further from the marquee. the overflow field is only 250m away, so don’t be concerned if you arrive late Friday. Camper vans and caravans are allowed, but there is no electricity hook up. When you arrive, there will be event staff guiding you to a parking and camping spot. Treat them nicely, they’ve given up their weekend to help you enjoy yours.
Dogs are allowed on the school / camping field, but must be kept on a lead at all times. They are not allowed in the school at any time but are allowed in the marquee so long as they are on a lead. There are no fires allowed and camping is only available from Friday 9am through to Sunday 4pm.
A more detailed set of event notes will be available closer to the event when all details are finalised, but for now… we wish you the best of luck with your training and look forwards to seeing you all in July.
